First Full Mission Day

So the packing was done they day before.  As Tonya jumped in the shower in the morning before leaving, Lacy and I hurried and opened her luggage and stuffed candy and little sticky notes throughout her clothing and other items for her to find when she gets there and unpacks.  All dressed, room sort of packed and every little item checked off her list, then checked again, we set off to have lunch with the small family group at Sizzlers.  Tim has for so long wanted to take a missionary to eat lunch at Sizzlers before going to the MTC because they give you $10 off your total for the meal if you have a missionary entering the MTC that day.  I think I there are a lot better ways to get a discount or earn $10!  After all, the first month of money required to get her to the MTC was a lot more than that!  We enjoyed our meal together and a short photo session afterward. Tonya told her dad, SueAnn, Kayleen, Chris, Emily and Kieten goodbye there.

Tonya didn't want to wait another minute even though we were 25 minutes early.  Off to the MTC we went, Tonya and Lacy in one car and Tim and I in the other car.  The line up of cars and missionary Hosts was so amazing.  Are there are really that many new missionaries coming to the MTC today at this time?!  Wow!  What a strength of new missionaries to flood the earth with!  They were all lined up for about a block of sidewalk, standing by the number post, waiting for a car to stop so they could instantly encircle the missionary, ask if they had a cell phone or car keys and their immunization records, give them time to pull their bags out of the vehicles, which they instantly grabbed, give hugs to their family and shuffle them off on their way!  Could only really take one car into the line up of cars although we tried to drive two cars in, thus we got a picture of Lacy and Tonya in the car ahead of us.  tonya and Lacy were told to stop at  number and we were told to go on down the line.  Tim decided he could stop in the middle of the road and I jumped out.  He then tried to pull over to park on the side and came over.   The gentleman who was directing traffic to keep it moving did not like this and wanted him to move the car, which we did after saying good-bye.

We hugged and I really didn't want to let go of her!  I knew I wouldn't be able to even touch her for another 18 months!  Wow!  That was so hard!  She was all smiles though as she was surrounded by several very willing Elders who were more than happy to help a Sister and excorted her off down the sidewalk and on to get signed in.  If you look really closely you can see her bright blue bags being pulled by the Elders and her dark skirt with the light color on the bottom of it as she is walking amongst the group. Good Luck Sister Smith!  You are amazing!!!  XOXOXO
